Inlays Onlays
What are Inlays / Onlays?
Inlays / Onlays are used when a major area of the tooth is damaged. They are quite similar to fillings, but are fitted differently. Fillings are spread in the damaged area directly and then hardened. But Inlays / Onlays are made in the lab and then bonded with the damaged tooth.
Inlays are placed in the middle or the inside portion of the tooth, if the damage is internal (normally occurs due to surgical processes). Onlays are placed on the outside of the teeth. This happens due to trauma in most cases.

The Procedure
Unlike fillings, Inlays / Onlays take more than one appointment to be completed. In the first appointment, moulds will be taken and the Inlays / Onlays will be prepared in the lab.
In the next appointment they will be tested on the teeth. If they fit well, they will be inserted permanently, but if not, it will take a few more appointments to complete.

Benefits of Inlays / Onlays
Inlays / Onlays are permanent and they protect your teeth better when compared to fillings. Fillings might easily wear off, but Inlays / Onlays are more durable and comfortable after you get used to them
Another advantage of Inlays / Onlays is that they resemble the natural colour of your teeth. While they also help in the maintenance of the teeth, they also preserve the natural structure and save the teeth from complete decay
