How Much Does a Dental Check-Up and Clean Cost?

How much does a dental check-up and clean cost? Private dentists in Australia set their own fees, so the price varies between practices. At Penrith Dental Care, a check-up and clean usually costs between $150 and $300, depending on what is needed at the visit. New patients can book our Complete New Patient Check-Up for $139. This guide explains what is included, what changes the price and what your health fund may cover.

  • an examination of your teeth, gums and mouth

What changes the cost of a teeth cleaning?

  • X-rays. X-rays are charged as separate items, so a visit with X-rays costs more than one without.
  • How much tartar there is. Heavy buildup takes longer to remove.
  • Gum disease. Cleaning below the gum line is a different treatment from a routine clean and is charged differently.
  • First visit or regular visit. A first comprehensive examination is a different item from a routine recall examination.

Check-up and clean costs at Penrith Dental Care

As a guide, a check-up and clean at Penrith Dental Care usually costs between $150 and $300. New patients can book our Complete New Patient Check-Up for $139, which includes a comprehensive examination, two bitewing X-rays, photos, a full mouth scale and clean and a fluoride application. The offer is for new patients only, additional treatment is quoted separately, and it can be withdrawn at any time. We confirm the fee for your visit before we start, and we tell you first if anything extra is recommended.

How much does a deep cleaning cost?

A deep clean treats gum disease by removing tartar from the root surfaces below the gum line. It is usually done with local anaesthetic and often over more than one visit, so it costs more than a routine clean. The fee depends on how many areas of the mouth need treatment, and we give you a written quote after a gum assessment. See gum disease treatment.

Will my health fund cover a check-up and clean?

Check-ups, cleans, fluoride and X-rays fall under general or preventive dental in most extras policies. Many funds pay a high proportion of preventive items, but the amount depends on your fund, your level of cover and your annual limits. Your fund can tell you your rebate if you give them the dental item numbers, which we can provide.

Is a check-up free for children?

Eligible children aged 2 to 17 can receive up to $1,158 in basic dental services over two calendar years under the Child Dental Benefits Schedule, including check-ups, cleans, X-rays and fillings. We bulk bill eligible children. See our Child Dental Benefit Scheme page.
