Bulk Billing Dentist Penrith | Children’s Dental Under the CDBS

Bulk billing dentist in Penrith: what is covered

Penrith Dental Care bulk bills eligible children under the Child Dental Benefits Schedule (CDBS). Medicare does not cover most dental treatment for adults, so adult visits are not bulk billed. This page explains who can be bulk billed, what it covers and the options for everyone else.

Bulk billed dental care for eligible children

The CDBS is a Medicare program for children aged 0 to 17 whose family receives an eligible government payment, such as Family Tax Benefit Part A. Eligible children can access up to $1,158 in dental benefits over two calendar years. We bulk bill covered services, so there is usually no out-of-pocket cost while your child has benefit remaining.

Services covered by the CDBS include:

  • Examinations and X-rays
  • Cleaning and fluoride treatment
  • Fissure sealants
  • Fillings
  • Root canal treatment
  • Extractions

The CDBS does not cover orthodontic treatment, cosmetic dental work or treatment in hospital. Read more on our Child Dental Benefits Schedule page, or see our kids dentist page and our guide to your child’s first dental visit.

How to check if your child is eligible

  • Services Australia writes to families at the start of each year if a child is eligible
  • You can check through your Medicare online account on myGov
  • Bring your child’s Medicare card and we can check eligibility and the remaining balance for you before treatment

Is dental bulk billed for adults?

No. Medicare does not pay for routine dental care for adults, so private dental practices cannot bulk bill it. Options that can lower the cost include:

  • Private health insurance with extras cover. We accept all health funds and claim on the spot with HICAPS, so you pay only the gap
  • Our Complete New Patient Check-Up for $139, which includes an examination, two bitewing X-rays, photos, a scale and clean and a fluoride application. The offer is for new patients only, additional treatment is quoted separately, and it can be withdrawn at any time
  • A written treatment plan with fees before any treatment starts, so you can plan the cost
  • NSW public dental vouchers. If a public dental clinic gives you a voucher for treatment, you can use it with us
  • NSW public dental services, which provide free care for eligible concession card holders and all children under 18. Waiting times apply
  • DVA card holders. We accept Department of Veterans’ Affairs cards for eligible dental treatment

For typical fees, see dental check-up and clean cost and tooth filling cost in Australia.

Do I need a referral for the CDBS?

No. Book directly with us and bring your child’s Medicare card.

No. You cannot claim the same service from both the CDBS and a health fund.
